“An identity would seem to be arrived at by the way in which the person faces and uses his experiences.”
-James Baldwin
An important part of life is recognizing that you have never “arrived” but are instead a constantly changing and growing product. This realization sets you up to take ownership of every single day. You can choose to make it valuable by learning something new and becoming a better version of yourself than you were the day before. This is a growth mindset!
Isn’t that an amazing thing to know?
The opposite would be to think that you have arrived and that nothing new or better is heading your way. That you are perfect as is and can’t improve. That is a fixed mindset where things happen to you and you have no control and no choice. If you have fallen into that trap, let me assure you that there is plenty left in the world that you haven’t learned and plenty of achievements that you haven’t obtained.
What do you want out of your life? Answer that question and you can take more control of your identity. You can see where you want life to go which means you can make better decisions that lead to where you want to go and control the steering wheel of your life.
Every day will bring new experiences and new opportunities. If it doesn’t, what are you doing to seek them out? What are you doing to create opportunities instead of waiting for them to arrive at your doorstep?
Life will continue to happen whether you are an active or passive participant. However, I find much more fulfillment when I continue to grow and better myself. I hope you do as well.
If knowing where you want to go in life seems like too big of a question, let’s make it simpler: What would you find interesting to learn about today? Answer that question and then start your pursuit of knowledge that interests you. When you pursue knowledge, you better your world and become an expert on topics that fascinate you.
I hope to see the better version of you and introduce you to the better version of me the next time we meet.
Now get out there and crush your week!
