Josh's Weekly Insights - March 18, 2026

“If you're always racing to the next moment, what happens to the one you're in? Slow down and enjoy the moment you're in and live your life to the fullest.”

-Nanette Mathews

Last week I was visiting Oklahoma and right after getting back from dinner, the tornado sirens started going off. Not being from the area, I headed down to the lobby, and the staff seemed to be very calm. Several of us had ventured out of our rooms to make sure everything was okay. Then the staff started to get a little more urgent and asked everyone to follow them to the ball room. Once inside they wanted to close the doors “just in case” which didn’t help my anxiousness. Fortunately, “the circulation” passed without creating issues for us but it was a reminder that many things are beyond our control.

With that in mind, I think it is important to enjoy little moments in life because nothing is guaranteed. No one knows how long they have on this planet, so every moment is a gift. Every moment is an opportunity to celebrate someone you care about or spend time with the people you love.

Humans are funny because we get caught up in so many urgent situations without ever slowing down to figure out just how important they are. We don’t prioritize doing the most important things because we are running from one thing to the next. While that does allow us to get a tremendous amount of stuff done, it also means we are missing out on quality in favor of quantity.

My encouragement this week is to take a moment (or 5) to slow down. In that time, try to figure out the top one or two things that matter the most to you right now. Then ask, “Am I spending the majority of my time and energy on what matters the most?” If not, it is time to restructure how you allocate your resources. Recognize that time is one of the only resources you can’t get back once it is gone, so spending it wisely is incredibly important. Focus on things that bring you joy, build better relationships, or set you up for future success. After all, life is too short to spend on moments that don’t matter.

Now get out there and crush your week!
