Josh's Weekly Insights - May 13, 2026

“Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”

-Samuel Beckett

When building effective teams and creating positive outcomes for organizations, we often overlook the impact of failure. You see, many of us view failure as the enemy or something to be avoided. However, failure is often just the first step towards progress.

Think about it. How many inventions do we use that were not the first attempt at the product but the result of trial and error? Or better yet, how many items do we use that were originally designed with a completely different intent but then found a market in a new way?

Similarly, so many leadership skills are not an immediate outcome but the result of consistent practice over time. Every leader has innate talents and skills that they can pour into and train up. Unfortunately, that also means that many of us have the opportunity to give up before we ever fully develop our gifts.

My encouragement this week is to spend more time analyzing why something you tried failed. Really evaluate if you should give up on that practice or continue working on it. Don’t give up too quickly, instead ask yourself what you learned from this failure and how it will help you sharpen your skills. If you do that consistently, you will create positive outcomes for yourself and your team.

Don’t give up when adversity strikes, because facing a challenge is when you really find out what you are made of.

Now get out there and crush your week!
